Summary[edit]
DescriptionChief John T. Lynch, Holyoke Fire Dept, hero fireman as Lt in Precious Blood Church fire.jpg |
English: Chief John T. Lynch of Holyoke, Massachusetts, whose name was forever tied to his efforts in saving parishioners during the Precious Blood Church fire, being the first to respond, and with then-Chief Engineer Mullin, pulled bodies from a mass that had been trampled and crammed into the stairs at the front door. Lynch was doused by the first hose as he tried to save as many, often burning-alive, victims of the fire; a contemporary account in the Quincy Daily Whig estimated his actions saved the lives of at least a dozen people. |
