Description
Italiano: Cherubino Alberti (Borgo San Sepolcro 1552 - Roma 1615) Impugnature ornamentali per coltelli in argento.

Pittore ed incisore secondogenito di una famiglia di artisti. Si forma a Roma nella bottega di Cornelis Cort per poi guardare al lavoro di Agostino Carracci degli Zuccari e del Villamena. In incisione riproduce sculture antiche, opere di Raffaello, Michelangelo e artisti contemporanei. Diventato Direttore dell’Accademia di San Luca, è oggi ricordato per affreschi in palazzi e chiese di Roma. I soggetti derivano da invenzioni di Francesco Salviati (1510-63) di gusto mitologico e grottesco. Entrambi i fogli sono firmati con il monogramma e il primo reca la data 1583, entrambi recano il Privilegio del Sommo Pontefice. Bartsch ricorda impressioni prima del privilegio che ritengo possano essere, se effettivamente esistono, più delle prove di lavoro poiché il privilegio contraddistingue proprio i fogli appena pubblicati. Impressioni eccellenti, esemplari rifilati lungo la battuta del rame non sempre visibile. Tracce di vecchio montaggio al verso.

Filigrana: “corona sormontata da una stella” simile a Briquet 4835 (Roma 1567-68)
