| Description |
English: Built circa 1875, this Italianate-style mansion was built for Charles W. Franzheim. The house features a wooden shingle-clad exterior, a whipped roof, a cornice with brackets and modillions, one-over-one double-hung windows with decorative trim surrounds and uniquely-shaped upper sash, one-story prow bay windows on the first floor of the front facade, decorative corner pilasters, a gable above the entrance bay on the front facade with decorative trim, a front door with a decorative glass transom and sidelights, a two-story bay window on the side facade, an octagonal three-story rear tower with an octagonal hipped roof, and a rough-hewn stone base. The house is a contributing structure in the Wheeling Island Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The mansion was divided into nine apartments in the 20th Century, before being restored under the direction of McKinley and Associates in the 1990s. |
