Court St
Dear Fanny,
I was just filled with the though of Cambridge and of a pleasant evening, when I read your note, countermanding me!
Julia is now at Newport, where she has been for several days. I join with you in sympathy about that article on War by Emerson. It is beautiful in composition and exquisite in thought. I (__ed) with that he would act more directly by his effective word upon the thoughts of his age; but I am assured of his sympathy with all human things, and I should (shrink) from the responsibility of guiding a genius so subtle and (flo__ like).
Ever thine,
C.S.
