Charles Lindauer, who has been confined in the Essex County Jail for nearly two years, sentenced for passing counterfeit money, was on Tuesday the 1st, pardoned by the President on account of his turning State's evidence. Lindauer was bequeathed $15,000 last month by a deceased uncle.
Notes[edit]
$15,000 in 1873 dollars is worth about $311,802 in 2017 dollars. Ulysses S. Grant was president of the United States in 1873. Charles Frederick Lindauer has no paternal uncle that died in 1873. He was pardoned on 21 March 1873 and the name was indexed as "Charles Lindower". The records also show the pardon given to his brother on 20 June 1870.
