Description
English: Charles F. Goldfarb, Ed Mosher, and Ray Lorie invented the first structured markup language in 1969, IBM's "Generalized Markup Language" (GML). In 1970 Goldfarb coined the phrase "markup language" to describe their invention.GML is the precursor to SGML, HTML, and XML, which are languages that the internet is based upon.
