Summary[edit]

Description

Chandelier on display as part of the "Jazz Age" exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

Georges Chevalier (1894-1987) designed this chandelier for Baccarat. He graduated from the National College of Decorative Arts in 1913, and three years later began working for Baccarat. He worked for the company into the 1970s, creating animal sculpture, clocks, glasses, goblets, jewelry, perfume bottles, plates, vases, and much more.

Baccarat assigned him to create crystal models for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. But his primary duty was to design a chandelier to hang in the center of their pavilion. This 2,000-pound chandelier has more than 30,000 crystals, and 300 lightbulbs, and resembles overflowing fountains.
