Description

Chambord (Loir-et-Cher)


Le pont sur le Cosson (Pont Saint-Michel).

Le château a été construit en pierre de Bourré, pierre blanche éclatante mais tendre, pierre extraite dans les carrières de Distant et Menars. Cette pierre fut amenée par voie fluviale, en remontant la Loire, puis le Cosson jusqu'à hauteur du pont.

A l'origine, Chambord est situé à proximité d'un gué, sur une courbe du Cosson. Un pont est mentionné en 1307 dans le testament du comte de Blois, Hugues II de Blois-Châtillon*.

Le Pont Saint Michel traverse le Cosson à l'est du bourg, juste devant le Château Royal. Il aurait été construit sur une ancienne voie Gallo-romaine qui rejoignait Blois. La structure de moellons calcaires et pierres de tailles en fait un ouvrage solide. Le pont daterait du XVIème siècle, il aurait été reconstruit sur un ouvrage antérieurs, probablement du haut Moyen-Age. Son aspect pousserait plutôt à penser au 17ème ou 18ème siècle.


  • Le fils de Jean de Châtillon, Hugues II, mort en 1307, inſtitua le pont de Chambord un de fes légataires. Il l’avait porté fur fon teſtament, avec tous les autres ponts du Coffon, pour une fomme de cent fous tournois. (Le château de Chambord par L. de la Saussaye - 1865)
