Description
English:
Entry door with iron motifs, railling/barred windows. ELTE Radnóti Miklós Elementary School and High School. Built as a High School of the Israelite Congregation in Art Deco style. Planned by Manó Rákos. Foundation stone placed in 1913. The construction due financial problems stopped in 1914, started again in 1922, completed based on plans of Ármin Hegedűs in 1931. The synagogue attached to the building was completed in 1927. Menhora shaped brick facade ornaments. Stone ornaments mostly at entry arches (ornamental, school related, bird reliefs). Inside is a Miklós Radnóti statue by Imre Varga (replica). Plaques here: plaque to László Ocskay, inscription: "In memory of Captain László Ocskay, who saved thousands of persecuted people of fascism in 1944//Erected by the Municipality of Budapest-Zugló and those who remember with gratitude"; black plaque to László Ocskay, inscription: "The Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem awarded the Righteous of the World award to Captain László Ocskay, who saved thousands of lives in this building during the Holocaust.//September 2, 2002//The Forever Grateful Survivors" - 10 Cházár András Street= 7-9 Abonyi Sreeet, Istvánmező neighborhood, 14th District of Budapest.
