| Description |
English: Looking into Baseball Field 1 of Central Park North Meadow, north of the 97th Street Transverse near the Upper West Side, Manhattan. My most recent memory of this field is playing a game against the now-defunct Manhattan Graphics High School. A college professor of mine once pondered aloud what it would be like to play baseball in Central Park, thinking it would be great. Well, professor, it's not as great as you think. The dirt is often both too bright and too soft like beach sand, and the fields often have no outfield fences. In addition, the fields are located far from most of the high schools that could use them. But it could always be worse. It could be Randall's Island. Or East River Park 6. |
