| Description |
English: A view of the north lateral wing on the main façade of the Center of Progress building on the New York State Fairgrounds, as seen in March 2021. One of the handful of buildings designed for the fairgrounds by the Buffalo architecture firm of Green & Wicks, the Center of Progress (originally known as the Manufacturers & Liberal Arts Building) dates to 1908 and is a good example of the monumental Neoclassical style favored by the firm's architects for institutional buildings of importance. The main façade features a recessed central pavilion fronted by a colonnaded entrance terrace with richly decorated Corinthian columns, while in the projecting lateral wings such as this one, the columns are engaged into a recessed portion of the exterior wall, an imposing iron cornice comes undergirded by ornate brackets, and a low-pitched hipped roof tops things off. |
