Summary[edit]

Description

Cawdor Castle, near Nairn in the North of Scotland has a long history. It dates from the late 14th century and was built as a private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor.

If the name seems familiar it may be because it featured in Shakespeare's play Macbeth.

In the play, Shakespeare has three witches foretell that Macbeth, then Thane of Glamis, would become Thane of Cawdor and King thereafter
