DescriptionCav team gets 'Branded' in Kandahar 140801-A-DB123-001.jpg |
English: Maj. Gen. Michael Bills, the Combined Joint Task Force-1 commanding general, places a Battle Dress Uniform 1st Cavalry Division Patch onto the sleeve of Capt. Carlos Ramirez during the CJTF-1 combat patch ceremony at Kandahar Airfield, Aug. 1. The BDU patch once belonged to Ramirez's late uncle, an infantryman who served in the division during Operation Desert Storm. Combat patch ceremonies mark the formal acknowledgement of a Soldier's right to wear their unit patch on their right sleeve, signifying their service with a unit while deployed to a hostile area. The 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters is deployed to Kandahar Airfield, leading the transition from combat operations in Southern Afghanistan to a mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan Security Forces.
