| Description |
English: Castle Rock, Flatholm The gateway to the island, Castle Rock is a splendid example of natural arch. It's not hard to imagine how it got its name and almost every visitor to the island is greeted by this rock formation as the safest location to alight is on a beach near here.
Notice how turbulent the water is around the rocks - the wind wasn't excessively strong on this day but the estuary has one of the most powerful and highest tidal reaches in the world and the turbulence is caused by the power of this tide. |
