Summary[edit]

Description

English: The Crabbehoff castle has indeed little to do with a castle. It is a "Builders" house: A large farm with a mansion. When and by whom was built the original Crabbehoff castle is uncertain, but at least after 1616. Because only in that year the Zuidpolder (Southpolder) was diked in which Crabbehoff lies. The estate had a lot of respect. A 18th century owner, Johan Diederik van Slingelandt even called himself Mr. Crabbehoff, but that was still too much credit for the large farm. Such a title was intended for owners of goodies, Knighthoods or fiefs.

Fire

That old Crabbehof castle is nothing left. On April 12, 1808 a fire broke out at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The Dordrecht Courant devoted considerable attention to the disaster. The fire, which broke out in a reed Schelf, hit over to the main building, according to the newspaper "an amazingly old and large Noble building, with a tower. Maybe Crabbehoff still had to save, if it had been closer to the city.
