| Description |
English: Castell Nanhyfer/Nevern Castle It's easy to miss the site of this ruined castle so clothed is it in trees and vegetation but it's well worth investigating. Originally a native Welsh stronghold, it was seized in the early 12th century by the Norman Robert Fitzmartin, lord of Cemmaes, who strengthened the castle and created a double-motted structure. One of the mottes can be seen here from the bailey. Enormous ramparts have been scooped out below and, although very little actual masonry remains, the tall beech trees shading the ruins make this an exciting place to explore. |
