Description Chart of water level of Mississippi River at the US Army Corps of Engineers Carrollton Gage for August and September 2005. Note large spike at end of August for Hurricane Katrina, when the river famously flowed backwards at New Orleans, and a smaller but significant spike for Hurricane Rita around 24 September.
