Description Bas-relief at the base of the stone cross memorial to the Carrickshock incident, near Hugginstown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The cross erected in 1925 celebrates an affray in 1831 during the Tithe War in which a mass of local tenant farmers/peasants ambushed a party of RIC constables attempting to enforce payment of tithes owed to the Church of Ireland rector. The monument names four locals: the leader and the three who were killed. The tithe collection agent was killed along with thirteen RIC men, including Captain James Gibbons, depicted on horseback.
