| Description |
Carnforth Station Junction signal box (left to right) 6 signal (up Furness to up Midland) and 5 signal (up Furness to down main) located at the west end of platform 1 at Carnforth station. Tuesday 3rd November 1987 Carnforth Station Junction signal box is located by the Up Main line to the west of Carnforth station, and is a Furness Railway type 4 design which opened at 5:30pm on 25th October 1903, replacing the 1882-built Carnforth Station Junction signal box located at the end of the platforms at Carnforth station. The signal box is fitted with an Evans, o'Donnell manufactured Railway Signal Company Tappet lever frame which was extended to 67 lever (numbered A-C, 1-64) at some time. The signal box was listed as Grade II listed building on 15th February 1989. The lever frame was taken out of use for the mechanical locking to be renewed and was replaced by a temporary signalling panel between 25th December 2008 and 1st January 2009 5 and 6 signal are carried on a London Midland and Scottish Railway "gallows" type signal is suspended from the station roof and features two upper quadrant short corrugated arm signals |
