Summary[edit]

Description

Caribou Lighthouse.

If you travel to Prince Edward Island by ferry from Caribou, you will see the Caribou Lighthouse shortly after leaving Nova Scotia. The first lighthouse built at Caribou Point was in 1868 and was a combination lighthouse keepers dwelling and light tower.

In the first years of the lighthouse's operation, there was lots of erosion from the banks and the lighthouse had to be protected and had to be moved back from the shoreline.

The second Lighthouse was built on the point in 1916. This lighthouse consisted of a square dwelling with an octagonal lantern placed on top of the roof.

The third Lighthouse is the one that remains here today.
