Description
  • Italiano: Busti dei santi Pietro e Paolo. Dettaglio dell'altare nel Carcere Mamertino (antico carcere di Roma). Secondo una leggenda (peraltro priva di qualsiasi riscontro storico), vi sarebbero stati imprigionati San Paolo e San Pietro. Si noti che a quanto consta dalle sue epistole, Paolo a Roma durante il processo fu tenuto agli "arresti domiciliari" sotto sorveglianza, e non in un carcere sotterraneo incatenato ad una colonna. La legenda aggiunge che i due santi avrebbero fatto miracolosamente scaturire acqua per battezzare i carcerieri da loro convertiti.
