Pioneer and member of the Washington Territory legislature.

Handwritten on verso: George W. Beam. Came from Sangamon County Ill. to Missouri. Crossed the Plains 1854. Died Whidbys Island May 5, 1866. Was Capt. of Co. I. A member of the Legislature of 1863-1864

George Wesley Beam, born 1833 in Illinois, His mother was Rosanna Ebey, and he married Almira Neff Wright (1843-1909) the daughter of his cousin Mary Ebey. Almira and George farmed Jacob Ebey’s old claim and also rented land. He was a Captain of I. Company, Northern Rangers, and a member of the State Legislature from 1863-1864. Four years after George’s death in 1866, Almira moved to San Francisco with her children Arthur, Mary, and Edith. Arthur made a fair amount of money as a realtor in Hayward. Almira eventually married a San Francisco banker, Abraham Enos. Edith also married a banker, John Allan Park of San Leandro.
