| Description |
English: Canal Pit This ceased producing coal in 188 but pumping continued until the closure of the final pits in the area in 1935.
In the foreground the circular top of the shaft (full of leaves) is visible. Beyond are two concrete supports for the headgear, and the most distant (and most visible!) structure is the remains of the engine house itself. The winding drum would have been between the two bits of wall visible above the distinctive white branch. |
