These tanks were alsomanufactured and tested complete out-side the shipyard. In the fall of that jyear three ships were started in GreatBritain on the general design of the!tankers now building at Chester, but thejshipyard would extend the fabricatingportion only to the cylindrical tanks. In 1914 the Chris Knudsen and theMills were converted on this side. Theformer was on the type of the Borgestad.A new departure was made with theMills. The tanks in this ship were con-nected to tanktop and deck, a trunkbuilt on deck and connections made fromtank to tank and to the ships side, thusforming cylindrical tanks and spaces be-tween tanks and shell, with oiltight cen-tre line bulkhead between tanks.
