Description

Here we are, on Highway 46, just east of the Highway 41 junction, east of Paso Robles, and the Salinas Valley in general. Leaving, In short, the Highway 101 corridor between Los Angeles and San Francisco. After we climb over this range of hills, we'll descend into the Central Valley, and in a short while, come to Interstate 5. The Central Valley is so big there are TWO major north/south corridors, Interstate 5 and Interstate 99, on the western and eastern edges. Looking at the map, I can see the 46 is far from a straight shot between 101 and 5 - its heading northeast here, and will then turn southeast and run at quite an angle until we got to the valley floor. Probably threading all the lowest passes through the hills, since that made a real difference for both cars and horses, in the day.
