| Description |
English: Built in 1962, this Modern and Colonial Revival-style dormitory was originally constructed to accommodated the increase in the size of the student body at Centre College following its official merger and absorption of the Kentucky College for Women, and was originally built in the modern style with a side gable roof, a red brick exterior, and vertically emphasized door and window bays. The building was later altered with the spandrel panels being redone in a Colonial Revival style, with doric porticoes and dormers being added to make the building feel more like the other buildings on the Centre College campus. The construction of the three identical dormitory buildings, including this one, and adjacent recreational fields that have since given way to additional dormitories, necessitated the usage of eminent domain to demolish a “blighted” low-income neighborhood formerly on the site, which displaced the former residents of the neighborhood, and was one of several urban renewal schemes undertaken by Danville in the 1960s and 1970s. The building remains in use as student housing for Centre College. |
