Summary[edit]

Description This is one of the most common and conspicuous grasses in the southern Sierra Nevada along the John Muir Trail from the region of Bishop Pass south to the Mount Whitney area. The diffuse purplish red open inflorescences are most conspicuous when populations are dense, even though they stand about 6-8 inches tall.
