Summary[edit]

Description

MANNING NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY, Albany, Georgia, April 28, 2014 – The Georgia Army National Guard's eighth State Command Sgt. Major Phillip Stringfield, embraces Mrs. Pat Manning, widow of Georgia’s first senior enlisted advisor, State Command Sgt. Major William ‘Billy’ Manning, during a dedication ceremony in honor of her late husband.

The small ceremony was filled with friends, family and military colleagues Monday, recognizing the Company ‘F,’ 148th Brigade Support Battalion Armory in south Georgia as the Manning Georgia National Guard Armory.

Manning had a reputation as a straight shooter who always put his Soldiers first and was known to demand the best from his troops while shouting his motto, ‘Make it Happen!’

"His style could put you off initially,” Stringfield fondly recalled. “Sgt. Major Manning was a direct, no-nonsense leader whom I’ve attempted to mirror in my style of leading our Soldiers.”
