| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Rond 1920 werd er in de Indische Archipel op vele plaatsen geweven. Een eeuw eerder was het weven veel belangrijker geweest, maar importen van goede en goedkope katoentjes hadden deze activiteit op vele plaatsen doen teruglopen. Het weven was nu bijna overal een zelfvoorzieningsbezigheid. De Padangse Bovenlanden, het kernland van de Minangkabauers, vormden op die regel een uitzondering. Naast het weven van mooie kains, werd er aan kantbewerking en borduren gedaan voor de markt. De foto laat twee vrouwen aan het weefgetouw zien, waarvan de rechter een hadji is, iemand die de pelgrimstocht naar Mekka gemaakt had. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
