English: Wooden figure in the form of a serpent
Nederlands: Beeld. Op Alor was de verering van slangen en krokodillen wijd verbreid. Dit soort beelden werd geplaatst in rituele huizen bij de ceremoniële dansvloer in het centrum van het dorp. De slang kreeg rituele offers van rijst en muizen zodat ze de clan gemeenschap zou beschermen en de vruchtbaarheid zou waarborgen. Het beeld beschermde tegen ziekten, ongeluk en kwade geesten, zorgde voor gezonde nakomelingen en bracht voorspoed in de jacht en strijd.
Als dergelijke beelden uit het dorp verwijderd werd, geloofde de bevolking dat de slangen zouden komen om hun kinderen te roven. . Houten offerbeeld in de vorm van een slang |
