Nederlands: De vrouw masseert het kind voor en na het lavement. Het kind heeft door het eten van vast voedsel, bijvoorbeeld omdat de moeder onvoldoende borstvoeding heeft, last van darmstoornissen. Men probeert dit te verhelpen met een lavement, oftewel een darmspoeling. Een kind dat niet geholpen wordt kan anders ondervoed raken en in het ergste geval sterven. Zie ook inventarisnummer 20010376.
De opname is gemaakt tijdens één van de twee verzamelexpedities die het Tropenmuseum in 1970-1971 ondernam ter voorbereiding op de grote tentoonstelling in 1971-1972, getiteld 'Samo. Een Afrikaans Savannevolk in ontwikkeling'. De expedities duurden elk drie maanden en werden uitgevoerd door de heren J.T. Broekhuijse en F.M. Cowan. Een foto van deze behandelsessie staat ook afgebeeld in de catalogus bij de hierboven genoemde tentoonstelling met het bijschrift 'Kleine kinderen hebben dikwijls darmstoornissen door het eten van vast voedsel. Een lavement kan verlichting brengen' (1971: 34 en 35). |
