English: A group of men dressed as samurai standing before Governor General Mr. J.P. count of Limburg Stirum during his visit to West Borneo.
Nederlands: Foto. Zoals bekend resideerde de Gouverneur-Generaal sinds mensenheugenis op Java; eerst te Batavia, later te Buizenzorg. Toch was hij uiteraard ook de baas van 'de hoofden van gewestelijk bestuur' (Residenten en Gouverneurs) in de Buitengewesten (dat wil zeggen alles buiten Java). De meeste landvoogden waren niet dol op het maken van lange en verre reizen in de archipel, maar zo af en toe moest het er van komen. Dan werd ook alles uit de kast gehaald, enerzijds om indruk te maken op de Tuan Besar (de grote heer), anderzijds om de lokale bevolking te imponeren. Op de foto zien we GG Mr. J.P. Graaf van Limburg Stirum (1916-1921) met krijgshaftig uitgedoste mannen. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
