Nederlands: Foto. De nootmuskaat van Banda was in de V.O.C.-periode zeer goede handelswaar, waar veel vraag naar was.
Na de massamoord op de oorspronkelijke bevolking van 15000 Bandanezen door de VOC (in opdracht van Jan Pieterszoon Coen) waren de nootmuskaatplantages op de Banda-eilanden geheel ontvolkt. Jan Pieterszoon Coen verzocht de Heren XVII in Amsterdam (bestuur VOC) daarom de plantages als 'perken' te laten beheren door uit Holland afkomstige mannen. Deze zogenaamde 'perkeniers' beheerden de nootmuskaatperken, hielden slaven en leverden de oogst aan nootmuskaat (2 maal per jaar werd geoogst) aan de VOC. De perkeniers ontvingen hiervoor een vastgesteld bedrag van de VOC en zorgden er tevens voor dat de slaven op de perken 1 gulden loon per maand ontvingen, een hoeveelheid rijst en zout en 1 keer per jaar nieuwe kleding. Dit zogenaamde 'perkeniersstelsel' startte in 1626. Heel Banda werd toen verdeeld in 68 nootmuskaatperken. De allereerste perken werden verhuurd aan perkeniers op het eiland Poeloe Ay. Daar startte de perkenier Paulus van den Broeke in 1628 het perk 'Welvaren'. n.b. Het perk leverde omstreek 1690 24000 Pond Noten en 6000 Pond Foelie en telde 160 "zielen" en 55 slaven.Op het eiland Lonthor zijn de perken Klein-Midden en Groot Waling in het bezit geweest van de Van den Broeke's. Klein Waling werd door eigenaar Johannes van den Broeke aan diens zoon Jan vermaakt, maar omdat deze aan verstandsverbijstering leed heeft diens moeder dit perk beheerd en zijn door aanhuwelijking tussentijds de families Schildman, Ernst en Kloeth eigenaar geweest van Klein-Waling. Begin van deze eeuwe behoorde Klein-Waling weer aan de Van den Broeke's en Hoeke's evenals de perken Midden- en Groot Waling.
