| Description |
Nederlands: Negatief. Bamboe is eigenlijk geen boom maar een gras en dat is ook wel duidelijk te zien. Het functioneerde in de Indische samenleving echter als een soort hout en werd op grote schaal gebruikt voor de bouw van huizen, hekken en bruggen. Door zijn enorme buigzaamheid is het voor sommige toepassingen geschikter dan 'echt' hout. Verder werd (en wordt) het gebruikt voor meubels, huisraad, werktuigen en wapens, terwijl bamboe ook materiaal voor vlechtwerk opleverde. Bamboe groeit in het wild, soms zelfs in grote bamboebossen, en werd bovendien gekweekt op de erven van de landbouwers. De bamboestoelen op de foto zijn omheind om ze tegen het vee te beschermen. (P.
