Nederlands: Negatief. In het Cultuurgebied van Sumatra's Oostkust bevonden zich naast de dominante tabaks- en rubberplantages ook een veel kleiner aantal ondernemingen gespecialiseerd in andere gewassen. Klapperplantages waren daarvan een voorbeeld. Ze waren vooral vlak langs de kust te vinden, van Langkat in het noorden tot Asahan in het zuiden. Kokospalmen vormden in de Indische Archipel vooral een bevolkingscultuur, maar ook Westerse ondernemingen hielden zich met de klapperteelt bezig, ondermeer op Sumatra. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
