Bahasa Indonesia: Negatif. Gedung yang terletak di salah satu sisi Waterlooplein (Lapangan Waterloo, sekarang Lapangan Banteng) ini seharusnya adalah Istana Daendels namun tidak pernah selesai. Meskipun demikian, hal ini adalah inisiatif yang penting, karena orang-orang Eropa yang menghuni pusat kota Batavia (Kota Lama) mulai tidak sehat (serangan malaria) dan cenderung pergi dari sana. Sekitar tahun 1900, Weltevreden (sekarang Gambir) mulai dibangun dan selesai sekitar tahun 1920, demikian pula kawasan Menteng, yang terletak lebih jauh ke selatan. Saat ini, orang-orang kaya Indonesia tinggal di sana. Di gedung ini kantor pemerintah Daendels berada dan sekarang masih berdiri (menjadi gedung Departemen Keuangan, namun patung Coen di sebelah kiri sudah disingkirkan sejak masa pendudukan Jepang). Nederlands: Negatief. Dit gebouw, aan wat later het Waterlooplein ging heten, had het paleis van Daendels moeten worden, maar die was al weg voor het voltooid werd. Toch was het een belangrijk initiatief, want daarmee begonnen de Europeanen de ongezonde (malaria) Benedenstad van Batavia te verlaten. Rond 1900 was Weltevreden ook volgebouwd en omstreeks 1920 begon de bouw van huizen in de nog zuidelijker gelegen wijk Menteng. Vandaag de dag wonen daar de rijke Indonesiërs. In het gebouw van Daendels werden gouvernementsbureaus gevestigd. Het staat er nog steeds, het standbeeld van Coen uiteraard niet meer. (P. Boomgaard, 2001). Het standbeeld van J.P.
