Summary[edit]

Description
English: Button Gwinnett ... Button who? The blue plaque is on the wall of St Peter's House in Exchange Street less than a hundred metres from St Peter's Church in Wolverhampton city centre. As a representative of the state of Georgia, his was the second signature on the United States Declaration of Independence. Wikipedia Button_Gwinnett gives a good account of his fascinating (but forgotten?) life, cut short in 1777 following injury in a duel, instigated by Gwinnett himself! Both men were injured but his opponent survived. Button Gwinnett died three days later of gangrene resulting from having a bone in his leg shattered.
