Varieties of Pole LIMA BEANS. The prices here quoted are for the seed beans, postpaid, by mail. fflzB*' For prices by the quart, or in larger quantities, to be sent by express or freight, at expense of purchaser, see BULK Price List, page 100. NEW EARLY BLACK LIMA. This valuable early Pole Lima, first named and introduced by us, is fully ten days to tico weeks earlier than any other Lima. The illustration shown on this page was accurately engraved from a photograph of part of a rope of pods * its like could be picked from almost any pole in our large crop at Fokdhook. As will be seen, the beans are so full and plump that the ends are crowded square, and partly overlap each other. The vines possess groat vigor and wonderful productiveness, customers wideb separated throughout the United States having sent, us vines bearing 1647, 1695, 1908, 1954, and 2013 pods respectively, by actual count. The seeds, which are about half the size of the large Lima, do not rot in the ground so readily as the latter. The vine is a medium- vigorous grower, quite hardy, and enormously productive, the clusters being borne in such profusion upon the poles that they present the ap- pearance of veritable ropes of pods. The pods have a uniform length of about three and a half inches and contain three and four beans each. The beans are of a dark-green color when cooked, and are noted for their extreme tenderness, delicate quality, and delicious flavor, both fresh and dried for winter use. Per pkt, 10 cts.; 3 pkts. for 25 cts.; pint 35 cts.; per quart 65 cts., postpaid, by mail. By express, per pint 25 cts.; per quart 50 cts. WILLOW LEAF LIMA BEAN. Its great vigor, length of^ vine, and enormous productiveness is simply wonderful, single vines measuring more than sixteen feet and bear- ing over seventeen hundred pods. It differs from all other beans known in its beautiful, deeply cut foliage, aptly described by its name—Willow Leaf. As the trifoliate leaves are of a rich, dark-green color, all pendent, it presents an attractive front. The vines are full of bloom and later become loaded with pods of uniform size. The pods are of the Sieva or Sewee type, larger in size than Hen- derson's Bush Lima, well filled with the pure white beans, which are tender and of fine flavor. It matures beans ready for the table very early, and bears throughout., the season. Per pkt. 10 cts.; 3 pkts. 25 cts.; pint 30 cts.; per quart 55 cts., postpaid, by mail. By express, per pint 20 cts.; per quart 40 cts. Small Lima, Carolina, Sieva or Se= wee. Seed about half the size, but earlier and hardier than the Large Lima; can be grown farther North. Per pint 25 cts.; quart 45 cts. HORTICULTURAL LIMA POLE BEAN. The introducer describes it as follows :—" It is a cross between the Common Lima and Horticultural beans. It has the shape of the former and color of the latter, while its flavor is a combination of these two finest of beans. It is very prolific, bearing five to seven beans in each pod, and is fully three weeki earlier than any other Lima. It can be grown in our Northern States and Canada where no other Lima will ma- ture, and we believe it is the great bean of the future for the entire world." Tested at Fordhook Farm, we find it comes perfectly true from seed, but personally we prefer the Early Black Lima for green-shelled beans—coming, as it does, even earlier. Per pkt. 10 cts.; pint 30 cts. quart 55 cts., postpaid. EXTRA EARLY JERSEY LIMA. The beans nearly as large and fully as good as the Large Limas, while they mature nearly as early as the Small Lima. The vines are vigorous in growth", bearing profuselv large, broad pods in clusters of four. Per pkt. 10 * cts.; pint 30 cts.; quart 55 cts., postpaid. CHALLENGER—DREER'S IMPROVED, or Potato Lima. Early and very productive; if measured in the green state, the pods are smaller than in the Large White Lima, but the beans are very plump, , and are so close together in the pods as to crowd against each other. Per pkt, 10 cts.; pint 30 cts.; quart 55 cts., postpaid. LARGE WHITE LIMA. The well-known favorite summer and win- ter shell bean. Large, greenish-white beans, of finest flavor, shelled green, and also good dried for winter use. Being very tender, it should not be planted until the ground is warm. The beans will come up sooner if the eve in the seed is placed downward. Crop short this season. Per pkt, 10 cts.; pint 30 cts.; quart 55 cts., postpaid, ^tv?^ OF THE GARDEN LIMA. While the dried beans are about the same size as the common Large Lima, the green beans are of unusual size. The pods are very long, and frequently contain four to six very large beans. Specimens have been selected fire on a stem, and each pod containing five beans. The beans are so large and Handsome that they sell well on market, while in quality they are excellent. The pods are produced in large clusters, and the luxuriant vines present a beautiful sight. Per pkt. 10 cts.; pint 30 cts.; quart 60 cts. 4*
