If you don't know Whose signs these are You haven't driven Very far! Burma-Shave These signs, advertising a shaving cream, were popular sights along America's highways in mid-20th century. A series of six signs posted at close intervals along the roadside contained a funny story. It was cheap publicity for the company. The signs were posted along highways in most of the states, but not Arizona. Eventually traffic turned to the Interstate highway system, where the signs didn't work. The company went out of business. Now a few of these reminders of days past are placed along old Route 66 in Arizona near Peach Springs. Only five signs in a sequence, some of them pretty funny, to old folks at least. |
