Summary[edit]

Description
English: Burma Railway Memorial The 258-mile railway between between Bangkok, Thailand and Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar) was built by the Japanese during World War II to support their Burma campaign. This memorial has been constructed by the Kwai Railway Memorial Group (Three Pagodas Group) from thirty metres of the original rails and sleepers, returned from Thailand in HMS Northumberland in 2002. It forms a permanent tribute to the 60,000 POWS and 180,000 locals who constructed the infamous 'Railway of Death', of which around 106,000 died.
