Description

Burg Gutenfels Die Spornburg wurde ab 1220 als Reichsburg gebaut. 1289 wurde die Burg, die Ländereien und die Ortschaft Kaub an Pfalzgraf Ludwig verkauft. 1504 wurde die Burg nach langer erfolgloser Belagerung auf den Namen Gutenfels getauft. Der ursprüngliche Name war Burg Cube (Kaub). Im Jahre 1793 wurde sie kampflos an die Franzosen übergeben und Napoleon ließ sie 1806 sprengen. Im 19. JH wurde die Burg durch Friedrich Gustaf Habel wieder teilweise aufgebaut. Seit 2008 ist sie in Privatbesitz und wurde aufwendig renoviert.

Burg Pfalzgrafenstein Die Anlage, eine Zollwachburg im Rhein wurde zwischen 1326 und 1327 von Ludwig dem Bayer errichtet. Sie diente nie als Wohnsitz einer adeligen Familie. Sie war ausschließlich dazu gebaut worden, Schiffe, die die Zollgrenze in Kaub überfuhren weiter zu melden. Ausserdem befand sich ein Verließ in der Burg.

Südlich der Burg setzte der preußische Feldmarschall Blücher am 31.12.1813 mit 50000 Soldaten und 15000 Pferden über den Rhein über, um die fliehenden Truppen Napoleon Bonapartes zu verfolgen.
