By the complex use of heavy equipment the miners of the Department 'of Soil Management (sic)' want to reclaim additional areas of the 1.5 hectare Aspen Grove open pit strip mining area.

ADN-ZB Gahlbeck 28.6.77 Bez. Leipzig: Landwirtschaftliche Nutzflächen, Wälder und Seen werden in der Zukunft auch aus dem wieder nutzbar gemachten Bergbaugelände des BKK Espenhain entstehen. Durch den komplexen Einsatz der schweren Technik wollen die Kumpel der Abteilung Kulturboden im Tagebau Espenhain 1, 5 Hektar Bergbaufläche zusätzlich rekultivieren. Bis 1980 werden im Bezirk Leipzig, der mit einem Viertel an der Braunkohleförderung der DDR beteiligt ist, rund 70 Prozent der bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt vom Bergbau neu beanspruchten Fläche durch die Rekultivierung alter Bergbaugebiete wieder nutzbar gemacht.
