Monte Cassino, Basilika, Zerstörungen

So wüteten die anglo-amerikanischen Bomber und Artillerie-Geschosse im Kloster Monte Cassino. Die Gewölbe der wundervoll ausgeschmückten Basilika sind eingestürzt und haben die herrlichen Mosaikbilder und Wandmalereien unter sich begraben. Ein stehengebliebener Pfeiler klagt an: "Pax!"
