For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Leipzig, Universitätsstraße, Wohnhochhaus Zentralbild Koch Th 6.2.1964 Aufbau des Stadtzentrums von Leipzig Neues Wohnhochhaus an der Universitätsstraße im Zentrum von Leipzig. Die Messestadt Leipzig hat durch den zweiten Weltkrieg 9700 Gebäude mit 44000 Wohnungen verloren. Von 739 öffentlichen Gebäuden wurden 299 vernichtet oder beschädigt. Von 112 Schulen blieben nur seche unbeschädigt. In der Zeit von 1958 bis 1962 wurden durch Neu-, Um- und Ausbau insgesamt 13487 Wohnungen geschaffen.
