For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Zentralbild-Sturm 20.9.1962 Sch Dresden: Neues Leben blüht aus den Ruinen ! Dresden - das ist eine Stadt, die berühmt war wegen ihrer kostbaren historischen Bauten, ihrer wertvollen Kunstgalerien, wegen ihrer schönen Parks und Gärten, ihrer Hochschulen und Industrie, und der man den treffenden Beinamen "Elbflorenz" gab. Der weitaus größte Teil dieser oftmals unersetzlichen Kostbarkeiten sank innerhalb weniger Stunden durch anglo-amerikanische Angriffe, bei denen nach vorsichtigen Schätzungen 40 000 Menschen umkamen, in Schutt und Asche. Aber die Menschen gaben nicht auf. Sie begannen, ein neues Dresden zu bauen. Neue Häuser wurden gebaut, historische Bauwerke erstanden wieder in alter Schönheit, und auch die Industrie entwickelte sich neu.
