Am 4.5.1959 wurde die 3. Etappe von Magdeburg nach Leipzig gefahren. Eckstein, der hinter Bebenin (SU) Zweiter wurde, hat sich bei dieser Etappe das Gelbe Trikot erkämpft.

UBz: Eckstein (DDR), der Zweite der 3. Etappe mit [ Heinz] Florian Oertel am Mikrofon des Deutschlandsenders. [Bernhard] Eckstein hat sich in dieser Etappe das Gelbe Trikot geholt.
