For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.
Illustration, "Das Buch von Alexander" ADN-ZB Repro 17.4.85 Bez. Erfurt: Gerettete Bücherschätze- Diese Zeichnung stammt aus der türkischen Handschrift "Das Buch von Alexander", verfaßt von Ahmadi (um 1334 - 1413). Dargestellt sind Alexander und seine Begleitung bei einem Gelage. Das wertvolle Buch befindet sich neben anderen kostbaren Handschriften und Drucken in der "Forschungsbibliothek Gotha", die im Schloß Friedenstein untergebracht ist. Die Büchersammlung wurde 1945 von der UdSSR vor Schäden bewahrt und sichergestellt. 1956 wurde sie offiziell an die DDR zurückgegeben. (siehe 12 und 13 N)
