For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme.  Segelschulschiff "Wilhelm Pieck"
Segelschulschiff "Wilhelm Pieck" Die zukünftigen Kapitäne, Steuerleute und Maate unserer Handelsflotte werden auf der schmucken Zweimaster-Schonerbrigg "Wilhelm Pieck" in einem 10-wöchigen Lehrgang ausgebildet. Die Schüler, die aus allen Teilen der DDR kommen und der Interessengemeinschaft für Wassersport der Freien Deutschen Jugend angehören, lernen unter Anleitung des erfahrenen Kapitäns Weitendorf, der vier Offiziere und einer 10-köpfigen Stammannschaft mit grosser Begeisterung die Bedienung des Segelschiffes. Sie wissen, dass der Tag eines einheitlichen Deutschlands nicht mehr fern ist und freuen sich darauf, mit unseren Handelsschiffen alle Meere befahren zu können. Was sie gelernt haben, werden sie dann erst richtig beweisen können. UBz: Noch kreuzt die lernende Jugend mit ihrer Zweimaster-Schonerbrigg in der Ostsee, bald aber werden junge Kapitäne, Steuerleute, und Maate unsere ersten Handelsschiffe über den Atlantik und Stillen Ozean führen.
