For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Gauleiter Reichsminister Dr. [Joseph] Goebbels, überreichte am Mittwoch (1.9.1943) an 56 Berliner Volksgenossen, die sich bei der Abwehr in der Nacht vom 23. zum 24.8.1943 durch Tapferkeit und entschlossenes Handeln besonders verdient gemacht haben, das Kriegsverdienstkreuz I.Klasse mit Schwertern. Der Kraftfahrer Kurt Fuhrmann erhält aus der Hand des Gauleiters das Kriegsverdienstkreuz I. Klasse mit Schwertern, weil er unter persönlichem Einsatz seines Lebens einen 78jährigen Volksgenossen aus dem obersten Stockwerk eines brennenden Hauses barg. Ausserdem war er an der Bergung von Hausrat hervorragend beteiligt. Durch einen Bombensplitter erlitt er eine schwere Verwundung am Hals. Atlantic-Boesig, 1.9.1943. |
