Guardiamarina (Aspirante?) del 3° reggimento di fanteria di marina San Marco (Repubblica Sociale Italiana), schierato in viale Carso, presso piazza Bainsizza, rione Prati, durante una ispezione condotta dal generale della Luftwaffe Kurt Mälzer in occasione del dispiegamento del suo reparto sul fronte della testa di ponte alleata ad Anzio - Nettuno a sud di Roma.

Rome, Italy, March 1944. Sub-lieutenant (Ensign?) of 3th regiment San Marco (belonging to the RSI Navy, and fighting as allied of the Germans) standing in viale Carso near piazza Bainsizza (Prati district, see here), inspected by General der Luftwaffe Kurt Mälzer (see here) around the time this unit was deployed to counter the Allied beachhead at Anzio - Nettuno, south of Rome. The very same officer is pictured at File:Bundesarchiv Bild 101I-311-0926-06, Italien, italienische Soldaten.jpg.
